The College of Engineering celebrated the achievements of its exceptional engineering students on October 3, 2024, with the induction of eight new members into the Nu Lambda Chapter of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers-Eta Kappa Nu (IEEE-HKN) honor society. The ceremony, attended by faculty, staff, students, and alumni, was a momentous event honoring the academic dedication and commitment of the inductees.
Student Daniel Williams, Chapter President, opened the ceremony with an inspiring address, emphasizing the transformative opportunities IEEE-HKN offers its members. He spoke about the society's mission to foster academic excellence, leadership, and professional networking, inspiring the inductees to make the most of their membership.
The ceremony featured remarks from members of the Western New England University engineering faculty, including Dr. Richard Grabiec, Assistant Dean of the College of Engineering; Dr. Christian Salmon, Chair of the Industrial Engineering and Engineering Management Department; Dr. Neeraj Magotra, Chair of the Electrical and Electronic Engineering Department; and Dr. Steven Li, President of the IEEE Reliability Society. Each speaker highlighted the ideals of IEEE-HKN—academic achievement, character, and service to the profession—encouraging students to uphold these values in their careers.
One of the ceremony's highlights was the recitation of the IEEE-HKN oath by new inductees, a pledge to academic excellence, leadership, and dedication to the engineering profession. Keynote speaker Dr. Sean Bentley, IEEE-HKN President-elect, delivered an address underscoring the importance of lifelong learning and professional growth.
Following the formalities, a reception provided an opportunity for inductees and attendees to network, strengthening the sense of community within the IEEE-HKN chapter at Western New England University.
