Western New England University (ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥app) is among the first national universities in the country to explore the use of immersive technology—which includes virtual, augmented, and mixed reality—to give prospective families an inside look at university life. The ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥app student-led metaverse event will take place on Monday, February 7 at 4:00 p.m. and aims to share all there is to know about life as a Golden Bear: campus events, traditions, academics, and more.
“This event is a perfect example of the innovation that takes place in everything we do as a New Traditional University,” says Vice President for Enrollment Management and Marketing Bryan Gross. “Coming off one of our largest and most academically qualified incoming classes in University history last year, I am so proud to be part of a team that is constantly willing to try new, future-focused ideas to benefit our students.”
Unlike in-person open houses, the metaverse event enables students from around the world to interact with current students for an authentic perspective of life on campus within a virtual experience. Metaverse visitors will explore a digital version of the University by using a VR headset, mobile device, or PC.
Similar to the digital worlds experienced in video games like Fortnite and Roblox, the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥app metaverse event will feature avatars, content in 3D, and the ability for participants to converse via text message, chat, or by activating audio and speaking with other participants and members of the ÐÓ°ÉÖ±²¥app community.
“I think this spirit embraces what it means to be a Golden Bear and I am glad so many prospective students have an opportunity to enjoy the event,” Gross states.
