Reflecting the growing global economy, the College of Engineering has a number of programs that involve international opportunities for students. These include travel courses, a global scholars program, international internships, and traditional study abroad experiences. By participating in one or more of these opportunities, students can make themselves more marketable in the global engineering workforce while simultaneously having the experience of a lifetime.
Engineering is part of a global economy that requires engineers with specific technical skills as well as broad perspectives. The Global Scholars program helps prepare engineering students for entry into the global engineering environment through in-class training, international experiences, and reflections on the role of engineers in the world economy.
Interested in completing an internship in a foreign country? Engineering students have spent a summer interning at the National University of Ireland, Galway helping to build an Industrial Engineering lab program. Our Career Development Center can help match your interests with prospective employers, and also prepare you for your international internship.
Students can complete a term or entire semester at a foreign institution through a traditional study abroad opportunity. Europe, South America, Asia, Africa, Australia…you pick the location where you want to learn and Western New England University will help make it happen.
From sustainable living to healthcare, many students tackle global issues in the Senior Design Projects which are often sponsored by industrial clients or healthcare organizations.
Western New England University students and faculty participated in two separate U.S. Department of Energy Solar Decathlons, including the U.S Department of Energy Solar Decathlon in October 2015 and the inaugural Solar Decathlon Latin America and Caribbean competition held in December. The University partnered with international schools as part of its strategic focus on internationalization.
U.S. competition's entry called EASI House took First Place in Affordability, and Second Place in Energy Balance. The Latin American entry called the SMART House took First Place in Energy Efficiency and Third Place in Energy Balance.
Western New England University offers several courses that are taught by our engineering faculty in which a portion of the course (or the entire course) is taught in an international location. For example, students can learn about challenges facing healthcare in Guatemala through ILP 238 – Global Health & Technology. Students can also travel to China to complete core engineering courses such as ME 202 – Statics, and EE 205 – Electrical Engineering I through our unique partnership with Shandong University of Science and Technology.
